Enjoying Our Garden 🌺

Our Garden

I simply love the spring and this weekend’s weather was amazing! Temperatures were in the 80s and there was a light breeze. My husband and I spent most of the weekend working on our yard. So many of the flowers in our garden are blooming!! We have Daisies, Gerber Daisies, Lavender, Lilies and much more. The flowers are so bright and cheerful, I just had to do a post about them.

Such a Beautiful Spring Day!!! 🌷

I don’t know about you, but I love spring! Today, my husband and I did some work in our garden and everything is starting to come back to life!! Our Crape Myrtles are starting to bud, our Irises are growing and our tulips are simply beautiful!!!

Indoors, we have several plants in our home and last weekend we got a Hyacinth from our favorite farmer’s market. We decided to leave it in our living room because not only is it beautiful but it gives off a heavenly scent.

Now gardening is something that we truly enjoy. Sometimes, one way to Achieve Complete Wellness is simply being in the moment. Doing things such as getting outside to enjoy the fresh air, gardening, baking, taking a walk or reading a good book is not only relaxing but may help boost your mood! Our Iris Flowers Will Soon Be Blooming 💐

One of the most amazing things as Spring approaches is seeing our garden waking up from its long winter’s nap. This weekend, we noticed that our irises are beginning to grow with their green leaves a couple inches out of the ground. Like little kids, my husband and I get so excited to see them because we know that they made it through another winter.

We also noticed that a group of irises that we divided and planted in another section of our garden are growing too!! Usually, our irises bloom in mid May and are simply beautiful.

Now there are a ton of varieties when it comes to irises. Our irises are called Bearded Irises, which come in a multitude of vibrant colors. They tend to grow 20-40 inches in height and bloom in mid spring and some rebloom in late summer. Irises do well in full sun to partial sun.

So, if you are looking for a new pop of color in your garden this Spring, wander around your garden center and take a look at irises!!!! You may fall in love with them just like we did.

A Hint of Spring in February!!

In the midst of winter, we had a little reminder of spring today!!! The temperatures hit 60 degrees, the sun was shining and we spent most of the day outside. It was truly an amazing day!!

Given the weather, we decided to take advantage of it and did a little work outdoors. In February, we need to prune our Crape Myrtles in preparation for the spring. After trimming our trees, we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon sitting outside, getting some natural Vitamin D.

The funny thing is that the temperatures are going to drop tonight and we are suppose to get snow tomorrow!!! C’est la vie!!! Back to a few more weeks of winter!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Taking Time to Relax ☃️

Welcome Winter!!

Hoping that you had an amazing start to your New Year!!! We had our first snowfalls of the season this week and simply stated, it was beautiful!!! It’s so relaxing to watch the snow fall and enjoy how quiet it is as snowflakes gently land on the ground.

Learning ways to take time out in your day to relax and enjoy the moment is a way to Achieve Complete Wellness. Whether it’s watching the snow fall, spending time cooking, exercising, reading a good book or spending time on your favorite hobby, taking time to relax is vital to relieve stress.

So, this week set aside a couple minutes for yourself each day to be in the moment and relax!!!!

Taking Time to Relax

While drinking my coffee this morning, I started thinking about the importance of relaxation. It’s easy to forget to take time for yourself and recharge your batteries. We get so busy focusing on the day to day activities that we forget what’s truly important. First and foremost, taking time each day to thank the Lord for everything He has done for us and giving us another day is a start. Taking time to be with your spouse, enjoying nature that’s around you, cooking, baking, or working on your favorite hobby are other ways to relax.

For me, one of my favorite hobbies is crocheting. Being able to make a scarf for my husband, a baby blanket for a friend or just crocheting to have that last minute gift is enjoyable to me. Now that fall is here, I tend to crochet more as it gets colder. For some reason during the summer, my husband and I enjoy gardening so we are outside a lot and the crocheting slows down. Now that fall has arrived, out comes the yarn, my crocheting needles and a blanket that I’m working on. So, today, take a moment and relax and know that by taking some time for relaxation, it has many health benefits. There are many health studies that show that by taking time to relax each day, you significantly reduce your risk of heart disease amongst many other health benefits. So, in conclusion, as today is the first day of a great weekend, take time to enjoy it and find what helps you relax!!!!!

Health Benefits of Lavender

One of the things in our garden that we enjoy is our lavender bush. Not only does it have the most beautiful flowers when it is blooming, it has an amazing scent that I’m sure most of you are familiar with.  I love gathering some of lavender and putting it into bundles so I can hang them upside down in our home to dry.  Once dry,  I tend to use them as a decoration and for the scent.   We also use essential oils and lavender is one of our favorites as it has so many wonderful health benefits.

So, here’s a list of some of the health benefits from using lavender:

  1.  It aids in reducing anxiety and tension.
  2.  It aids in reducing insomnia.
  3.  Reduces muscle and joint pain as it has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
  4.  It’s an effective bug repellent and reduces irritation caused by bug bites.
  5. It can also help with nausea and car sickness.

Ways that we use lavender:

  1.  We use our diffuser and put lavender essential oil in it at night. We just add a few drops of the oil to water and turn our diffuser on.
  2. We have also put a few drops of lavender essential oil on our pillows at night to help with sleep.
  3. I also make  a room spray using lavender oil along with a few other essential oils, add a little water to it and use it in any room for a nice, light scent.
  4. I have placed a few drops on lava beads that I have on a bracelet so I can smell the essential oil throughout the day.

Now, I’m sure there are many other uses for lavender oil but I just wanted to share how I use it and what for.  Hope you find this helpful!!
